When I was in medical school, 27 years ago, I would go to a secret place. I'll tell you about the secret place shortly, but first, let me tell you how I landed there.
I grew up Southern Baptist, and Holy Bible, memorizing parts of it since I was a child. I also read the Bagavad Gita, the Koran, and the Sutras.
I went to a protestant church, sent my sons to Catholic School, studied with the Hindu, and took notes from the Hedonist.
I've been loud, but much of my life, I've been quiet.
My spirit leaders have been sincere ministers, 2 good parents, 1 good friend, old women, children, and athletes (the real champions use spirit to mold body).
Also, 27 years ago, I would go occasionally to a place in the Georgia Mountains to visit Roy Eugene Davis. I'd live on the grounds of his Spirit retreat and meditate, fast, and run many miles through the mountains.
I hadn't been there in about 20 years, but my youngest son, Luke, heard me speak of the place and asked to visit. As Gibran suggested, I study my sons and try not to make them like me but rather to learn from them. So, recently we did...and I remembered the strength from a spirit retreat.
Roy Eugene Davis is the last living direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda who still teaches Kriya Yoga. Here's an interesting talk that he gave recently.
My father always said, "whether you wish to be Hindu, Christian, Hebrew, or Buddhist--be a good one by knowing G-d is Love.
Meditation helps me see that truth.
This whole adventure of living seems richer to me (and easier) when I meditate and pray.
Here's the man, Roy Eugene Davis, who taught me to meditate...discussing the "6 Questions Every Person Should Ask"...
